The Honorable Curt Weldon

Dear Friends of Mickey Vernon-
Work has begun on casting a life-sized bronze statue of Mickey Vernon, one of Delaware County's favorite sons, to be placed in the country. The Honorable Curt Weldon, U.S. Congressman and, like Vernon, a native of Marcus Hook, has graciously agreed to serve as chairman of the fundraising committee.

Vernon, of course, was a two-time American League batting champion, Navy Veteran of a World War II and former manager of the Washinton Senators. To Delaware County, he has meant much more, primarily a role model that all youngsters may emulate. A true gentleman of the old school, Vernon donated his time and talent over the years to any and all organizations and youth groups which have called upon him. He has never charged a fee.

We are offering you the privilege of taking part in this project to honor a gentleman who has brought honor to Delaware County his entire life. A deadline of June 1st, 2003, for contributions has been set so the sculptor and the foundry can complete the project on time. Donations will be tax deductible, and all donors will be recognized in a program book during the dedication.

Check should be made out to the Mickey Vernon Fund and sent to Mickey Vernon Fund, c/o Sun East Federal Credit Union, 201 Pennell Road, Aston, PA 19014. We deeply appreciate your support.
