Basketball has been
an integral part of my life, particularly during the period of 1947-1965.
During that time my experiences in independent ball in Philadelphia,
at Villanova College; with the Philadelphia Warriors in the NBA;
with the Quantico Marines; and, the Camden Bullets in the Eastern
League provided many memories and thrills among these were: •
Going to an 8-team NCAA Field with Villanova
• Being selected as an All American
• Being named NBA Rookie of the year 1950.
• Being selected as MVP in 1952 NBA All-Star Game
• Winning two scoring championships with the Warriors
• Being named NBA League MVP 1956
• Being named NBA Playoff MVP in 1956
• Winning an EBL Championship with Camden
• Selection to the Basketball Hall of Fame - 1977
• Being named among the 50 greatest NBA Players - 1977
However my greatest thrill occurred in 1956, when as a member of
the Philadelphia Warriors, we won the NBA championship. While Individual
awards are satisfying, the real reason for anyone participating
in a competitive sport is to win the championship. Falling short
of this goal has to leave one with a lack of fulfillment.
