A native of Upper Darby,
she was an outstanding athlete in field hockey, basketball, softball
and lacrosse at Ursinus College and is a member of that school's
Hall of Fame. She also was an outstanding field hockey and lacrosse
player for the Philadelphia College Association teams and played
for the United States national teams in field hockey (1964-67) and
lacrosse (1956-67), competing in international matches in England,
France, Germany as well as Jamaica. She coached basketball and lacrosse
for 10 years at Ursinus before becoming an assistant coach at Temple
University (1983-90). She was an innovator of zone defenses and
helped Temple teams advance to the NCAA semi-finals seven times
and the NCAA final four times, winning championships in 1984 and
1988. While serving as basketball coach at Haverford College, she
coached the Philadelphia team to a pair of United States Women's
Lacrosse Association championships. As coach of the United States
Women's National Lacrosse Team, she has won four world championships.
She was named Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Century and has been
inducted into the United States, Virginia and Pennsylvania Lacrosse
Halls of Fame.
