In 1968, Robert led Ridley High's soccer
team to the League and District championships. At East Stroudsburg
State College, he was selected the first team All-America Goalie
in 1972. He was later drafted in the first round by the Philadelphia
Atoms and helped them win the North American Soccer League Title
during his rookie season. He was named the league's Goalie Of The
Year after giving up just .62 goals per game. That year, Robert
became the first soccer player to appear on the front cover of Sports
Illustrated". He also established many records as a goalie,
some of which still stand today. For 13 years (1973 -1986), Robert
played Professional Soccer for the Atoms, New York Cosmos, Los Angeles
Aztecs, and Philadelphia Fury. He would become one of the greatest
goalies in American soccer history.
