Born 7/28/43
Al was a brilliant
two-way tackle at Monsignor Bonner where he was selected All-Catholic,
All-Delco, and All-Scholastic. In 1961, he received a scholarship
to play football at Villanova University. He led the Wildcats to
the Liberty Bowl in 1962 and was selected to the 1964 All-America
team as a defensive end. In the N.F.L., Al played for 10 years with
the New York Jets. The highlight of his pro career was Super Bowl
III, when he started at middle linebacker for the Jets in one of
the biggest upsets in pro football history, defeating the Colts,
16-7. Joe Namath, the Jets' quarterback and Al's roommate, made
the winning prediction that would go down in history. Al, nicknamed
" Hombre " because of his toughness, would have an All-Pro
career with the Jets.
